Roulette
Roulette is a French word meaning "small wheel". It is believed
that it has been around for thousands of years. Although no one can show an exact date, it is known that the
ancient Egyptians played some form of the game. In time, this ancient game moved to 16th century France, and became
a popular game amongst the peasant class.
Roulette's gambling potential was spotted early on. For the first nearly
two centuries of its history the roulette wheel remains little changed from the original basic design created by
Pascal. Then in 1842 two Frenchmen, Francois and Louis Blanc add a 0 to the numbers of the roulette wheel. There
are now 37 numbers on the roulette, ranging from 0 to 36. Adding the 0 increases the house odds of
winning.
Now, every casino in the world has a Roulette Wheel. Roulette is popular
because it is easy to play and full of suspense as the ball spins to a stop on a number which has a big 35:1
payoff.
With the advent of online casinos, players can now experience the thrills
and excitement of a roulette game on their computer. Every major online casino software engine provides
roulette games with various roulette betting limits.
Perhaps the greatest aspect of online roulette is that you'll never get
lost in the shuffle. Regardless of how skilled a player you may be, when tables get crowded in live casino
environments, there are times when you can't effectively put your system into practice.
Bets are made by placing chips on the appropriate position on the roulette
mat. Rows are selected by placing the chips across the line at the edge of the row, and columns are selected by
placing the chips on the line at the head of a column. Groups of numbers are selected by placing the chips at the
points of intersection of the number squares. There are special places on the mat for selecting colours, even or
odd numbers, and groups of 12 numbers.
