So let's get started. This article deals with the strategy for the first betting round. You find a
good table, buy in and are finally part of the action. Your two hole cards appear in front of you and now you have
to ask yourself if your hand is good or bad, and what you want to do with it.

Starting with the first player to the left of the button, each player is dealt 2 cards, face down,
called pocket cards. The first two players to the left of the button posts the blinds, and
the first round of betting ensues. The first action after the deal is taken by the player to the left of the
big blind. He and subsequent players can choose to call the big blinds bet, fold or raise. Post-flop,
remember this is no limit and you just have a pair (I’m not going to talk about what to do if you hit a set or aces
or kings – you know what to do with them!). In these games people do silly things, that’s why you’re playing here,
so you have to accept you might be beaten right now. I will normally try to take control of the pot at this point,
unless the flop is really scary. This means a middle size bet, high enough to make any draws a mistake, but not so
much that you can’t walk away from the pot. If someone re-raises in a major way, you have to be prepared to fold.
Note that I’m saying be prepared to fold. This is where the skill in poker comes in. There are a lot of players I
play against that I would re-raise all in or call against. People who play good cards aggressively. Qs-Js-6h-5h:
Many hold’em players gravitate to hands like this: two fair hold’em hands that are completely uncoordinated for
Omaha. Neither the five nor the six work in any way with the queen or jack, and two playable hold’em hands don’t
always add up to a playable Omaha hand. There are lots of hands that fit into this category. Examples are
As-Th-5c-5d, Jh-8h-5c-4c, and Ah-Kh-3c-3h. You should be able to think of a few others with some practice. Most
players in a freeroll re-buy tourney will not re-buy. You should always re-buy in these tourneys. Freerolls with
re-buys will generally have unlimited re-buys for the first hour. For freerolls, consider the tourney to be
volatile until the end of the re-buy tourney. You can also be pretty loose during this period since you can always
buy back in if you go out. So what does it mean to you? Is it worth it to re-buy 10 or 12 times in a $1 freeroll
that has a total prize of $1000 with $200 as first place ?
